Sorry to go off topic but having just watched the 2000 German GP, and also the 2000 Australian GP which were dug out of a mountain of VHS... I came to several conclusions..
1) How awesomely quick the cars looked only 8 years ago. They sounded beautiful and the driver moevment in the cockpit is HUGELY more than these days. The sensation of speed is also greater, whether this is down to onboard camera technology or something I don't know.

2) Reference to the German GP, WHAT ARE CIRCUITS thinking nowadays. As much as I think safety is a huge issue to F1, my god were the circuits better back then. The massively long straights of Hockenheim, watching proper slipstreaming and great outbraking moves and with proper gravel traps so drivers knew they couldnt get away with going OVER the limit (LH take note)

3) Seemingly back then all people were worried about was how to increase safety... and they have succeeded, but at what cost!? Although this season has been a particularly exciting one, the cars now look almost slow on TV (I realise they are not slow) and do not run anywhere near as close to each other as they used too. Now that safety has increased, the focus has gone into trying to REVERSE the effects of making the cars and circuits safer, and we wont see whether that works untill next year (I remain skeptical)

Suggestions.... ban telemetry... go back to slick tyres... bring back gravel traps (I do not wish to see drivers hurt but they do realise the risks when entering the sport) bring back v10's...reduce braking power someway so that braking distances are increased..... and remove these stupid stupid penalties than every single driver seems to be hit with now when overtaking. As Brundle said, F1 is now a nanny state where everytime someone overtakes, you wonder what kind of penalty they will recieve... what on earth was bourdais thinking by coming out of the pits!!! Honestly how the people that penalised Bourdais can sleep at night.. I dont know!

Get back to racing!
