Well, its easy to say in retrospect, but he didnt actually hit anyone, and very nearly pulled off a stunning recovery from a poor start.
Of course he could have just sat back and let the others drive past and away from him, but this is F1, they are RACE drivers, pumped up on the first corner of a key race.
Im sure LH would not do it again , knowing what the outcome was, but at that moment he had an opportunity and had to make a decision ( instinctive, i suspect)
Put any one of the others in the same position ( even your beloved MS) and tell me thay would not have taken that same oportunity on the inside!
There have been many worse first corner manouvers that have been hailed as "inspired" in the past.
