Surely that is the point DavyBoy has been making? We don't know the level of affect on climate change humans have been having, we don't know whether the affect will be a NET positive or NET negative one, nor do we know the affect any of our attempts to reverse it (should we wish to) will have. Why then, is it OK for governments to impose taxes and try to radically alter our lifestyle to suit? Why also, do we believe any such climate change will not be well within the bounds of human survival and adaptability? Why do governments insist on pushing a doomsday scenario when any such changes, no matter how great, will happen over a period of decades and centuries, allowing for plenty of time for said adaptation?

A more philosophical question to ask would be why we think we have a right to survival? Perhaps it's a good thing that a large part of the human race be wiped out. The Earth only has limited resources afterall and humans are as much a part of the ecosystem as anything else. Why should our extinction (or any other living thing) be considered as anything other than nature restoring balance?
