Get the latest chassis you can afford, something like 17 or 18 P1 will be ideal.....in terms of racing, I would suggest you get your MSA licence ASAP, and avoid/be cautious in relation to some of the IKR series, they tend to be either run to the MSA book......or in some instances, not even scrutineered and its the proverbial wild west.....so by default, go MSA with a licence.
Engine wise just get a used MSA GX160 which is up to the V14 regs, avoid new as they don't break in until they have done about 30-40 hours.....plenty of good used motors out there.
I just did 2 years of Bambino with my youngest son, and I must admit, its a wretched class...…..the bambino driving style teaches the kids very bad habbits which if you don't sort it ASAP will wreck their cadet driving technique, so opposed to paying big money for a big motor, be prepared to pay to have your kid 1:1 tutored for many many months, get a go-pro and put in on the nassau panel and point it at his feet....best bet is find a kid that has done cadets and can talk to your kid in a kid type way, do track walks and work on him 1:1.....will save you a fortune in team costs
