back in 2013 I had a highly tuned GX390 which was pushing 30hp......a similar thing happened to me, whereby it was a pig to start......the valve clearance lash setting had to be set very carefully, otherwise when it got hot, the lash closed up and was holding the valves just slightly open, so hardly any compression when re-starting a warm engine, and generally hard to start......caused me a nightmare
Anyway, when setting the valve lash, forget TDC, its useless and causes all the problems when you are using a high lift and high over-lap cam.....I found this out on a US based kart engine forum, a common problem
What you need to do is:
Set the inlet lash/clearance as the exhaust valve just starts to open
Set the exhaust lash/clearance when the inlet valve just starts to close.
I dont know your lash settings but 8 thou for both is quite safe on a T2
