I feel it is essential to clarify the reason Khali Atkin’s kart number 42 was disqualified from heat 3 at Whilton Mill Kart club not only to broadcast the facts about what he was disqualified for, but also to warn other drivers of the issue to ensure the same thing does not occur to anyone else after a successful days racing.
Khali Atkin’s was disqualified for having a GENUINE HONDA grey coloured size 70 main jet in his carburetor, which the scruiteneer’s claimed they had not seen before. The jet in question is of a GENUINE Honda product, and was confirmed by the scruiteneers that it was of IDENTICAL dimensions to the brass coloured jet, but because it was grey and not brass, it was deemed non compliant.
It appears that Honda have brought out a new series of grey jets for their new stocks, part number 99101-ZK7-0700, the brass type part number being 99101-ZKF-0700. The jets are IDENTICAL in EVERY way, apart from the new type being grey and the old type brass. It is clear that the 2016 Honda Cadet regulations V11 are out of sync with the Honda Manufacturers parts production.
After the scruiteneer questioned the jet saying he had never seen a grey one before, he then requested we went to the on track kart shop (KKC, the UK’s largest supplier of Honda Cadet kart components) and buy a genuine Honda size 70 Main jet, which we did and brought to him in the sealed, Honda stamped bag with the KKC Receipt and sure enough it was grey in colour identical to the one in Khali’s engine as this is the ONLY colour jet the UK’s largest kart components store sells. This is also the case with the other major UK kart parts supplier who also only sells the grey main jet type with the same part number as the one fitted in Khali’s engine. Please search this for yourself on their online webstores to confirm.
To put this into perspective, if you happened to have a wet first heat, and your carburetor main jet became blocked from a bit of dirt running through the carburetor which does frequently happen and you wanted to replace it with a new Genuine Honda main jet, you could NOT go and buy yourself a replacement jet as all of the UK’s major Honda cadet parts suppliers ONLY supply the main jet with the part number 99101-ZK7-0700 which despite being a GENUINE HONDA part and supplied in a GENUINE HONDA stamped bag and all the dimensions are IDENTICAL to the brass colour type, because it is grey, it is non compliant and you would be disqualified from your race day.
We have obviously appealed this decision of non compliance, BUT until this new part number is either accepted and added to the regulations or it is clarified on where we can still actually purchase the old brass type of jet now the grey type has been introduced by Honda, I urge you to please unscrew your main jet from your engine and double check it has the brass type installed so your driver is not left heart broken at the end of a successful days racing from running a Genuine Honda product in his engine.
I will update this post with any further information as soon as I hear from the MSA to clarify the situation with these main jets.
