Just seen this thread....if your on a budget and its a non-MSA play-thing of a T1, I'd say you want to get the compression increased significantly as a starting point..... probably the easiest way to do this is via installing some T2 con-rods as they are about 2mm longer, but just make sure they clear the valves and cylinder head.......install some plasticine on your existing T1 piston, re-assemble the head, pull it over a few times and check the plasticine has not crushed more than 2mm, you also need to check the rings wont pop out the bore with the extra 2mm piston protrusion, take care the bore is not already mullered or stepped, otherwise it will fail quickly......
also the T2 head gasket is much thinner than the T1.....but I dunno if they are interchangeable or not. The look the same pattern.
also installing some advanced timing keys will also light it up a treat
Be careful with jour jet settings, as a guide your spark plug should be light brown......grey = lean......black = rich
All quite cost effective changes and reversible if you dont like them. Take a look at the regs below as they are a nice visual comparison of the T1 and T2 differences

if your feeling really brave, then bigger carb, gas flow the head and so on....
enjoy B-)
