I personally agree with the principle, it's a great idea! I also think that some of Brian's points are a little extreme, but I agree with some of it...
What I don't agree with is, is a company monopolising what is, simply put, a hobby to most of us. I am a mechanic myself, and own a garage. Thus I am more than capable of simple maintenance. Anything more than that, I use JJ, as he is local to me, I'm passing his door often, so it is very convenient. And I am perfectly happy with that arrangement.
Genuine scenario for you:
I had my engines off the kart, in the back of my transit whilst work was being carried out on the kart. One of the numpties at work needed to use the van, and unbeknown to me, clearly took a corner too fast, and one of the engines ended up on its side. Oil everywhere, also in the carb. Unfortunate I know. Sh*t happens. I had a meeting that weekend. I was able to strip the carb, clean it etc etc... Had the engine been sealed, I could probably have got it to Jeff and got it sorted. Not a chance of getting it to RPM.
So, this is my personal gripe. I'm all for fair close racing, absolutely. And the fact that it seems pretty cheap is an added bonus. But I don't like a company, whoever it may be, monopolising a hobby I spend a lot of time / effort / money doing, end of!
I was actually looking at doing a few epec rounds this year, but now won't... I refuse to buy even more motors, as all the other series I run in use 160's.
