Don’t panic guys, it’s not so dramatic! First of all, any adjustments you might wish to make to your engine can be done easily at home, or via your engine builder. You certainly won’t need to replace your flywheel or crank. As for fitting a stepped key, welding up your crank or widening the mounting holes for the coil, all of those practices remain illegal. You must retain your key but may alter the width, to enable you to rotate your flywheel on the crank. This will enable you to move your ignition timing to an optimum point. I have full co-operation from Dartford Karting, Panther, Prokart Engineering, RPM and UFO, and we are still working on the fine detail and the wording of the regulations so please don’t try to second guess at this stage. Our intention is to give you the best performance without increasing the costs and at the same time give the club scrutineer more opportunities to check for irregularities. We believe this is in the best interests of the sport and we are working to give you all good, close, economic racing. Please don’t try to pre-judge us while we are still working on the detail. All will be revealed and then you can try it out for yourselves. I would welcome your feedback after that.
