There a things you can do which cost no money such as filing the flywheel key to advance the ignition timing and making sure the valves are lapped in correctly. You can open up the exhaust and modify the baffle plate. Set valve clearances. You will need to change the head gasket so get the gx200 one as its thinner and raises compression.
At least spend some money on honing the bore and changing the rings.
