For what it's worth I can see both sides of this erhh 'discussion'.

Plainly SP engines are driving up the price of what should be budget level karting. Especially as I don't believe that there is anything very special about the parts in the current crop of SP engines, except for a good dose of snake oil and clever advertising, in which I include the regular stooges posting on here about how great a certain engine builder is.

However, neither do I believe that it possible to build competitive engines without investing between Ł2000 and Ł4000 in tools. As mentioned above, without a dyno, you're wasting your time.

Doesn't mean you can't service the thing, but don't expect to know if you've made it better or worse in doing so. But again on the other hand don't believe the myths that every part needs matching.
