top end work always keeps a Gx at its best. (valve seats and good springs/accurate clearances)

compression test and/or leakdown test will tell you when to refresh seats etc

same test/s to check for piston ring wear and bore state

so... hours are only a guide, testing gives a better picture of what needs doing and when.
