I share your concerns on the effect of SP engines, which has become even more profound with the success of Honda cadets and dads willing to spend any amount on their children. There is a simple solution, the buy-back. It operates successfully at some circuits, while others think it is the work of the devil. Basically you can buy anyone's engine at the end of the event for £500, this deters folk from spending large amounts on their engines. However, when offered to major series, the driver survey always says "no". I can do no more! Whilst the idea of a blue-printed engine has some merit it would not actually solve this particular problem, selected parts would always give and advantage (a slightly longer con-rod, for example, how can that be machined to a tolerance?). That said, I am always open to any new ideas.
