hi guys can you help???

i had a con rod come loose, lucky held and didnt shoot hole in crank case, i change it for a con rod i had spare in my shed started it up and it made a horrible rattling sound. was then advise not to put second hand conrod onto a different crankshaft, so i then changed it for the spare cranshaft i had spare which came from the same engine as the conrod, it still makes the same rattling sound. Am i on a hiding to nothing or is there a simple soloution?
