4 stroke racing, no License required! Just friendly, close and enjoyable racing, with a huge prize fund up for grabs!
The 2011 British Thunderkart Championship, sponsored by HARDINGE Machine Tools.
The championship will be decided over a single weekend, on the 4th and 5th of June 2011, at the Cheshire kart track HOOTON PARK. The 900 meter track will host practice and 4 heats on Saturday 4th June, then camping is available free of charge on site, when the paddock will become one big social get together for drivers, supporters and teams to pretend to get along before the big final! On Sunday 5th June, a last shakedown practice session, followed by two further heats to qualify for the optimum grid position will be raced, and then the grid for the final will be issued! An 18lap dash, with the top heat scorer off pole position will decide the 2011 Champion, and the huge prize fund that is on offer, following the support from HARDINGE Machine Tools, will be awarded. A huge collection of eye catching Trophies, along with PRIZE MONEY and other special awards will be given handed out, and presented by a special guest of honor. As well as the normal top three trophies, several other trophies will be awarded for engine categories and different tuning levels, meaning there are lots of trophies and awards to get your hands on!
It costs £55 to race, and £5 to register. Camping on site is available on the Saturday only, but is free of charge. Transponders can be hired from the circuit for the weekend.
Your top 4 heat finishes over the two days (6 heats in total) will count towards you grid position for the championship decider, and so this gives drivers more flexibility and a better chance at having a shot at taking the title!
2010 was the first year this championship ran, and its unique style made it something quite special and offered some good close racing for a variety of karts and drivers, producing 8 different race winners from 12 races, and races that had the top three finishing less than 0.5 of a second apart!
The different style of grids, with the highest current point scorer off the back helps make the racing more of a spectacle for spectators and for the racers, giving faster drivers a challenge, and slower drivers much more of a chance to win. It is open to any kart powered by a single engine, that must be air cooled and 4stroke (this includes V-Twins), and any age or ability driver. Karts can be tuned to any extreme (separate awards for different engine categories and tuning levels!), although must not be geared.
popular karts include world formula, v-twins and a range of honda gx powered karts, however any kart that fits the 'single air cooled 4stroke engine' banner is allowed. (contact us to check if you are unsure)
Hooton park, located in Cheshire, Junction 6 of the M53, is approx 900 meters long, and has a thriving MSA and an INDIKART series which race every month, and Bob Wilson, Clerk of Course at Hooton, has said "Both myself and the staff are looking forward to hosting this championship decider,and with it all being decided over one weekend, we are sure the racing will be close and exciting!" 2010 Champion Stu Stretton has said, "Hooton offers lots of fast straights, tight hairpin corners and some twisty bits too, the smooth surface and mixture and variety of the corners should make the racing close, giving all kart types a good chance of running at the front, so i am looking forward to racing there!"
The racing is at club level, and is driver friendly; this makes the racing affordable, close but most off all FUN! The main aim of the championship is to have fun, while still providing some exciting and close racing for both competitors and spectators, and obviously to decide the 2011 British thunder-kart champion. All the drivers are treated equally regardless of kart, engine, age or experience, and the drivers views are listened to, so if a majority vote is cast, the officials will do their best to make sure they keep the drivers interest in mind!
