your spot on Andy, unfortunately like Trev says, thats motorsport. If i could race on Ł50 motors instead of having Łx-amount tied up in engines i would love to.
Once one does it, everyone has to. Its sad to see and its the reason most people pull out of motorsport.
The only point im making to some of the comments above is that its not the engine builders fault, its the guys out there with big budgets buying the advantage.
Its no different to big teams that buy 10 sets of tyres to find the best batch. you cant say its dunlops fault for selling them.
