They have the intention of producing a GX range for karting, to bring the tolerances closer. This will stop the silly cheque book prices paid for what is basically a weed whacker engine, so saying they do not notice or care, is not correct. Also the Rotax development was originally never intended for karting at all. The improvements have been included for karting but are not specific to karting. The new airbox was not for karting. The new coil was not for karting. The new reed block was not for karting.The new exhaust WAS, but only because the new old shape cracks on the three welds under the stinger. It performs exactly the same as the old one. Rotax has naturally progressed to include kart racing and they have improved the weak points to accomodate that and reduce failures. Over 10 long years of very slow development.
