Exactly, reputation is what counts and the reputation of Honda has taken a knock recently. In France it seems the Honda engine is about to be dropped from karting because they have basically ruined entry level karting with their approach, and in the UK (and Europe) they simply don't have any stock to sell.
While Subaru employed a top engine builder to tune and develop an equal and reliable kart specific engine and then mass produced it. Honda chucked some stronger springs and a camshaft in an engine, removed the tank and called it a kart engine. They could not even be bothered to degovern it.
So karting is a only a small part of the business, but the attitude is widespread. Honda brass could learn alot from the demise of BSA who paradoxically had their end hastened by Honda.
