We race at club level in the Isle of Man. We find that the engines are very level. Racing comes down to driver and set up - you can't go out and buy a monster selected parts engine.
The engines are very tightly controlled by Tal-ko which is good because the level playing field is maintained but is bad because they are a monopoly supplier so there are no market forces on prices.
The service interval is very long but I am not sure I would leave it 100 hours, Maybe 80?
I certainly know of engines that have had 3 seasons use that are still performing and one that was recently serviced needed very little work.
My own engine has recently had some problems, due largely to the nature of our old circuit which required full revs for at least 50% of the lap (2 very long straights) which accelerated the wear more than a normal kart track would. It still performed on the pace after 60 + hours but requires a major rebuild.
Those drivers I know who are looking to move classes and try the TKM4 back to back with a Rotax have all preferred the power delivery of the TKM.
That's it really, mostly plus points and still baffled why the class is not more popular than it is.
