Overbored GX120's were allowed previously in France. They were banned this year.
I've seen a few on the dyno and on average the 0.5 gives about 5% extra and the 0.75 about 7% extra peak power. That's probably about the same difference again on top as an SP engine.
So, as previously pointed out to be ultimately competitive every engine would need boring to the max straight away, so you would still end up binning it once worn out anyway.
Maybe somebody should have a word with one of the SP engine builders, they must have loads of Un-selected barrels kicking about, if it's just money your trying to save.
Having said all of the above. If the new engine turns out to be unsuitable for racing or more likely is stupidly expensive then overboring might make sense after all.
