Well, I've just removed the clutch and popped the side off to inspect the cam shaft and decompressor. Although I didn't actually remove the cam shaft I was able to feel it moving freely. It was running slightly short of oil but nothing major.

I'm back to step 1, really. Any suggestions as to how to further troubleshoot?
