It could be that the kart has had the diagonals measured on it. Then setup around that, so you could get a 5mm skew axle. So then you should measure from the end of the axle.

Pop the seat out, set the castor to 0 and measure from corner to corner and see if your out there. Also measure you wheel base on each side. Just make sure it's square.
