"IMO, the actual outright lap time is irrelevent, what matters is that engines are equal and reliable enough to be sealed for at least a seasons use. THe KX21 is and I don't believe there is another 4 stroke engine out there that you could say the same about"
I'm surprised no one has beaten me to this but there is a reliable sealed 4 stroke engine out there - the TKM4s. This is sealed by Tal-Ko and is good for about 80 hours competitive running so long as you change the oil every time it's run.
On our track they are slightly slower than the Rotax but the racing is much closer.
They are also made to very close tolerances and are very even. You can't go out and buy a monster motor. There have been several races this year where 1st and 3rd have been separated by just a few 100ths.
