Tyre softener is used in sprint meetings at Lydd. It costs Ł20.00 per litre from Sumo Power at Rye. It is easy to detect because, as well as the stong smell, the tyres start to break up around the depth holes where excess fluid has accumulated in the holes and over-softened the surrounding rubber. Also, after several races, the tyre treads start to break up near the outside edge.
There is no way of telling how much to use or how deep it has penetrated. Tyre life is greatly reduced, new to canvas in less than 3 hours of racing.
