There have been loads of threads on this, try using the Search function.

Put simply, a tyre has an optimum temperature for chemical grip and and optimum pressure for mechanical grip, and tyres obey the combined gas equation where and increase in temperature or an increase in pressure are linked.

The idea is to set your initial tyre pressure so that when on track you get as clsoe to both optimums as you can.

Tyre heat comes from the amount of energy put into the tyre and retained. Different driving styles and strategies will modify the amount of energy you can put into a tyre.

The pressure difference that swaps bad performance into good performance is as little as 0.02 bar (0.29 psi)

Different tyre compounds develop max. chemical grip at different temperatures.

Logically, each tyre will have a different pressure in it, because each tyre experiences different energies, front and rear, inner and outer.
