The head is aluminium alloy (I think). Thus, the swarf will NOT be attracted to a magnet.

By now, if you started it even briefly, if there was a problem.... the damage is done. It's quite possible for the identical piece of swarf to be ejected out of the exhaust AND/OR to damage the engine. That's just sheer luck which result you get!

If it does start and you raise the revs, the plug could still 'pop' out. Be careful!

If you don't need to fit within rules, then I would certainly use a helicoil or similar. They are cheap (ish) and damned good!
