The original extremes were a tuned 200 and were not overly reliable.

The bigger issue was pro karting was still pretty strong at the time with decent sprint and enduro racing across the country. This would be in complete contrast to the current fragile position with only pockets of success. As I have said before something has to be done and whilst engines are just one factor as an attempt to give the class a chance it isn't the only one by far.
