You can place the lead right down on the front of the kart, say 2 kg bolted to the A palm that supports the bottom end of the steering column right forward by the front of the chassis,

I have a cadet who has 4kg mounted on the floortray between the petrol tank and the bottom steering point, (2 * 2kg half circle weights 20 mm thick).

The driver is about 40kg, moving the weight from the back of the seat to its current position was the same as moving his seat about 10 cm forward.

However, his main problem is that we are trying to compensate for a bad driving style. He is braking far too early and coasting into the corner.

Unfortunately his dad does the same thing in his car!

Note, any change in direction or speed is a change in velocity. if the velocity increases it is an acceleration, if it decreases it is a deceleration. A deceleration will move the weight forward and an acceleration will move the weight back.

If the driver slows down before a corner, but starts to accelerate before turning in,then the front wheels will go light and both rear wheels will sit firmly on the deck, the kart simply won't turn in.

Again, our driver isn't being aggressive enough to get any heat in his tyres. It is very difficult to gain any confidence if he is always on cold tyres even after several laps.
