You need to remember: karts are designed to be racing vehicles. Part of the 'design' is that they should react to changes in 'setup' allowing the race driver to 'tune' the performance. That implies that a chassis that is NOT 'tuned' (set up) correctly would be EXPECTED (designed) to handle a lot worse than one which IS setup correctly.

By all means, just go out and buy some new grippy tyres..... there's lots of different specifications. It'll help.... BUT the single best thing you can do is to LEARN to DRIVE properly. The concept is that a GOOD kart driver will take your kart and (as long as it's the same basic specification as you mates' karts) and he'll THRASH your mates with it.

How you learn is to follow a properly quick driver and notice what he does and where.

While you are learning, you need to thin about the theories of HOW to setup a chassis. Taking your example.... you say the rear grip is too low. So.... we look at you chassis and see how to INCREASE the rear grip. There's a big range of things and each one will produce a subtly different change. Here are some choices:-

1) New tyres
2) Set the tyre pressures to the 'optimum' for the track and the day
3) Alter the track width (at the rear)
4) reduce the 'caster' angle of the front stub axles
5) Change the weight distribution of the chassis (my first choice!)

On the driving front:-

1) Learn the 'correct' line though corners
2) Learn the optimum angle of the steering for the corner
3) Learn to use ALL of the width of the track on exit of a corner.
4) Learn how to avoid driving ON opposite-lock

The final problem may well be that you chassis is NOT as 'good' as your friend's chassis. If yours is an ex-hire kart and theirs are 'race karts' then you simply WON'T beat them..... unless you are quick!

Basically, we'd need to know a hell of a lot more before we can give you 'on the button' advice.

Tyre softener MIGHT help....... but not for long! Plus..... be CAREFUL..... there are strong suggestions that some softeners can give you cancer! Not something to be ignored.....
