I've just gone the other way this year! Done prokart sprint for years, now trying the oekc endurace in a rotax for a change.
If you want a chance to win and run at the front go and get something for 2.5k with selected motors. You can half that price with a good package that will get you near the front with odd chance of a win/podium. Even prokarts aint cheap if you want to be at the front. My personal choice would be go for a 7kart (Mk1/2 or 4, built to last and even the old chassis are fast), then MS (later design) or Wright R2. All are capable of winning on the day.
