Alex.

The point people are making is that a kart that's loved and cared-for, that's owned by those who race it, will be 'tuned' to the best possible level. The chassis will be as light and slightly delicate but absolutely SPOT ON the setup.

However, arrive-and-drive 'hire' karts will not have had a spanner laid on them except to repair damage and breakages since they were bought. The chassis will be MUCH stronger and heavier as they are there to do a job 7 days a week, rain, snow and shine. The owners of arrive-and-drive karts don't have much interest in the 'performance' of the karts: their job is to deliver a 'karting experience' to those who don't know a great deal about karts. That's quite different from the owner-driver teams who will care VERY much about 1/10th of a second of lost speed (many care about 1/100ths of a second) and may have spent many thousands of pounds to GET those 1/10ths of a second.

If you stood a owner-driver, race-spec twin Honda kart next to an arrive and drive kart, you'd notice the differences. Put cruely, the arrive and drive karts would look 'agricultural' in comparison.

The best option would be to go and watch an 'owner-driver' Pro Kart race and watch the speed: it's amazing how fast they are!
