The reason being that a GX engine is a very simple beast with what is called a wasted spark - in other words, the flywheel magnet passes the pickup every rotation causing the spark plug to spark, so you get a spark on the exhaust as well as the top of the compression stroke. Because of this, the Alfano reads a spark every revolution of the engine, just like on a two stroke, but unlike most four strokes which will only spark every other revolution - shimples.......
