Hi Graeme. How old are they ? Its probably a difference in heat dissipation as the inboard clutch is possibly creating more friction. Strangely enough, i recently bought 16 Magnum clutches for our fleet and 4 of the inboard clutches, with adjusted shoe direction failed. The roller bearings had flattened and siezed in the drum, not happened b4, poss a dodgy batch, take a look at it.
