Tim I agree with alot of what you say about implementation. Buy backs and pool engines are not going to fit every club or series. But if you take them out of the equation for the big races they will soon have no place anywhere. Also the price of the 'Buy Back' has to be right, if you want to buy a winning engine then you should be prepared to pay a premium price for it, if for no other reason than to compensate the seller, who as you say has to buy and maybe run in new engines. I don't see that it could work for endurance either, but it isn't needed there is it?
My own opinion is it needs somebody or group of people with some influence and enough money (not to need to be creaming too much more off the punters) to promote a karting series for cadets and adults alike based on the principle of equal engines for everyone. It's what i believe the SPORT of karting needs if it is to survive as a sport open to anyone.
As I keep saying more damage is done by the perception of unequal engines than the actual real difference. It's why I object to the overt marketing of SP engines, not only does it undermine the confidence of those without them, it also devalues the achievement of those who have them.
