Hi,
Sorry this is a bit of a noob question but I'm just getting into Prokart racing and I have a few issues with my kit ... and setup.
I did the 24 hour race last year which was great fun but we lost a lot of time in the pits due to sprockets that were worn right down to the point of being smooth discs (went through 4 on one side yet the other side lasted the entire race and still had life to spare!). I presume this is some sort of alignment issue causing the chain to wear down the teeth?! Basically, the kart is fine at speed but at low speeds (rolling up or in wet conditions with slow cornering speeds etc) there is a jumping/crunching noise from the right side engine (I always ensure I have proper chain tension and aligned my front and rear sprockets using a straight edge piece of metal). In the 24 hour race, I removed the engine...took the clutch off and put it back together and we went the final 11 hours without any mechanical issues. Since then I got some new clutches and the right hand side engine has started doing the same thing again. Does anyone have any suggestions or have had this happen before and knows exactly how to fix it? I am losing a lot of testing time faffing on with speculation on my part.
Also, for a dry setup...I'm running Dunlop slicks at Warden Law ... could I be cheeky and ask what tyre pressures people use and what gearing to go for? I am bang on the 180Kg weight limit. I have heard many different pressures from 20psi - 40psi (the latter just sounds ridiculous). I was also running a 71 tooth sprocket but didn't really get any pull out of the corners (quite possibly due to my driving style) but when I switched to 73 I gained a second per lap. I was running 23-25psi in the tyres during the last dry race day.
I realise there are lots of questions here but ideas and help would be massively appreciated :-)
