Look at both sides of the equation.

Soft mountings would make the 'ride' more comfortable, smoother and quieter. They'd make the engine and the chassis last longer.

However, they increase the 'side to side wobble' of the engine, alter the effective length of the chain, which is a CRITICAL adjustment, and they make accurate adjustment more difficult. They also increase the energy losses to the performance of the kart.

Taking into account how rapidly racers change their chassis and rebuild their engine and asking yourself if those other 'benefits' listed above really DO have an advantage in racing...... I think you'll see the answer.
