hey guys n gals...next in the long line of questions...clutch setup

ive just got my new magnum clutches through the post today and noticed that there are different setups depending on the orientation of the clutch and also the spring colour...first off ive been told to have it on setting 1 which is gradual engagement and heavy start.....why is this, what would be the advantages of a lighter starts and/or rapid engagement

also what would the different springs do, im assuming it is something to do with tension on the clutch shoes but what affect does it have??
