Hi Martin,
personally, I think the idea of 'pool' engines is an excellent one and something that should be done with Max's (sorry for swearing on this forum!). Yes, £25 (or some other nominal fee)does sound a bit cheap but might work?
If you took a number of engines that were given out at practice and collected again after the race, there should be no obvious advantage. If a particular engine or engines were showing to be more competitive than others, they could quite simply be removed and sold on (for good money too, no doubt)and replaced with 'spare' engines.
Using this method, you would ultimately end up with a set of very, very evenly matched engines and no-one would care which they got because there would be nothing to gain.
Good, close racing and cheap as well!
Like I said, I would love to have seen this method employed in Rotax Max racing but I know it would never catch on - why? Because you would not be able to cheat so where's the fun in that?
