I don't know about long term reliability for rental, but from a build quality point of view the Subaru engines are more like motorcycle engines than the Honda Generator engines. The race engines even come with a 6 month warranty, try making a warranty claim on a raced GX160!

As for numbers, if you interpret the statistics from land mass and population density, then the UK is bound to come out on top. I confess I don't know the numbers, but I'm told that leisure karting is the biggest participation sport in France. I think in the UK it is fishing.

At last count there were 226 outdoor kart centres in France, many of which have two or sometimes 3 circuits. Sadly only a fraction of these are for owner driver use.
