Saxon had an interesting four stroke engine on their stand at the kart show that was quite cheap (can't remember how much), but it all depends really on whether you want to race or not.

With regards the GX390, it is a bit of a lump, but you could consider getting the seat as far to the left of the chassis as possible; this would also help with lateral weight balance.

You could also consider a GX270 and get some performance parts from GX160parts.com

I'm sure there will be some more experienced people on here that can help you some more.
