sometime the collers are used because if you are racing long endurance races ie 6hr or 24hr any indentation in the axel creates a week point. nearly all the axels that i have seen that have broken always brake on the indentation point or grub screw point. another point also is that when there are no markes on the axel ie drill holes, or punch marks the axel components slide of easy. RS do surply the collers, type Roland into the serch on the RS website as roland from amaricar are the manufactura.
