Old UK restriction or euro/global spec, Tim? :)
Though I guess it’s the former to accommodate the larger number, I don’t know the latest on this – you’ll have to ask them directly about format etc.
However, I expressed the following opinion when this was still at the discussion stage:
It always struck me as a mistake to lock these “VT250” engines – and the karts to go with them (see below) – into the confined little box where other karting interests wanted to keep them. This compelled them to be marketed as 4-stroke alternatives to Rotax, in response to which most buyers inevitably said “I’ll have a Rotax then, please”. Which, I suppose, was the whole point.
Everywhere other than the UK these engines are sold mostly in mid-30s hp specification, which, apart from the elite-only KF stuff, at least puts them in a bracket of their own and therefore gives them a reasonable USP.
Of course this also means running them on karts with front brakes, as again is predominantly the case outside the UK.
So, I think conforming to a global standard rather than a UK-specific one would be a more promising way forward.
I understand that the UK restrictors on existing engines are easily removed; others will be able to explain and/or clarify this with respect to each of the respective engines.
Anyway, as per Tim’s question: who’s up for joining the party? The offer is on the table, and there must be plenty of owners itching to race their kit again.
PS: It’s “swissauto” = one word, as per the manufacturer’s website: www.wenko.ch . And, dare I say, the plural ‘s’ should not be preceded by an apostrophe: why on earth is that usage so popular on forums such as this? (This comment doesn’t apply to you, Tim, but generally).
PPS: Some might even have a Tech F1, GM or whatever else of this type; I doubt they’d be excluded either.
