let us know the kart chassis make and the brake model and someone will guide you through the maintenance. If you can post a photo on flickr, photobucket or other host and post link here it will all help.

A few points that may help track down the problem:

# the whole axle is located from side to side by grub screws in the axle bearings.
# these can come loose and allow the axle to move
# when the axle moves sideways the brake disc can rub on the brake pads
# some brakes allow you to centralise the caliper on the disk
# the disk is clamped to the axle and can be centralised within the caliper
# bumping the kart sideways can move the axle and misalign everything
# take the rear wheels off and start measuring from bearing hangers to each end of axle.(they should be equal)
# worn out axle bearings make a grinding/rumbling noise
# worn out bearing can seem to spin freely but will cause excessive friction under load

# if you change any parts take digi photos and measure before stripping assembly
