Although I understand what you are saying, you do realise that your answer "I do it because it works for me" is EXACTLY the words that have allowed all the superstitions of the world to happen:

"I throw salt over my shoulder to ward off the Devil"
"I sacrifice chickens to my God for a good harvest"
"I cross my fingers to incrase my chance of winning the lottery"
" I beleive that Homeopathic 'medicine' (!) works"

Your view is about as 'rational' as the above. However, I have followed those "it works for me" arguments, too! I still 'touch wood' when I haver said ceratin things!
