Is it just that you can't undo the nuts?

An impact gun is much more effective than brute force but use a proper 6 point impact socket not a 12 point.

Any chance of a picture as I don't recollect the caliper type, not being a prokarter?

Don't overtighten the nipples because being hollow, they are considerably weaker than a equivalent bolt size.
