If it is permitted in the regulations then it isn't cheating, however, surely the application of a softening agent will increase the wear on tyres which will require replacement more frequently?

Also, do you apply softner to new tyres? And how many applications over what period of time and how much does this stuff cost? Surely a simpler solution is to look after your tyres, store them in the house in tyre bags or wrapped in cling film.
