Have you had the cranksidecase cover off and checked the timing marks on the camshaft line up with the crankshaft ones ... Its very easy to get it a tooth out one way or the other .
Get piston to TDC with valves shut and magnet on flywheel by coil , remove ancilliaries in the way then remove side cover and look for indentation / pop marks on crank and cam cogs , they should be aligned , if not pull cam out clear of crank cog rotate until aligned and re-insert .
