RRat.. Have you tried a different carb ?
The 25mm Mikuni slide carb commonly used on the race mini dirt bikes is a good match and easy fit with a simple adaptor plate.
I have also run a Tillotson 334 which gives good performance with easy tuning, but you can lose the idle setting.
And a decent exhaust pipe also helps the motor run better.
