Buying a dog is probably the best way to learn as it makes you look at everything and understand what it should be doing - Deavinsons were pretty robust mind and the simple Honda GX is as straight forward a 4/ engine you can find.

Soft setting (position 1) is best for rolling starts for certain.

I would be inclined to aviod World Formula mind. The class is all but dead (we had 2 at WL for the first time in several months) and the engines have historically been subject to reliability issues. Kit might be cheap but you will be racing yourself before long and spending loads of time in the pits. My young team mate did a full season in WF just after it was launched and used 7 or 8 engines. Yes they have improved but would you really know what you are buying - perhaps another dog - whilst you could use what you have learned on your current kit to purchase a decent prokart.
