Not used a stud and nut is years Trev - I have always found the supplied bolt and washer to be fine.

Float should be small - 1mm even. More often than not (unless the French based Know-it-all says otherwise of course) using the washers, spacer, keyway and bolt supplied with the clutches these days achieves a well positioned fit.
